Hoa 'Aina provides for certification for goods that are produced using Hawai'i Natural Farming (HNF) methods. HNF involves the use of EM-1, an Organic Materials Review Institute listed product, and methods that are deemed environmentally safe and sustainable for Hawai'i.

While certified organic products are generally considered to be desireable, we believe that the quality of certified organics and their net environmental impact due to their production could be much improved. This is due to the facts that

• Product nutritional content, taste and appearance are low;
• Much of the organic amendments used in farming certified organic products come directly from the U.S. mainland or overseas;
• Little or no attention to the enviromental 3 R's (reduce, reuse, recycle);
• Optimal production is not achieved, which wastes valuable farm land.

To be Hoa 'Aina certified means that HNF methods are used. We believe you'll notice the improvements in its products and while providing for a higher quality of life and being better stewards for the land of Hawai'i.
